1.) Florence, Italy: Known as the “cradle of the Renaissance,” Florence is overflowing with beautiful pieces of art and architecture. Once you go to Florence be sure to visit Galleria dell’ Accademia (Academy Gallery), which is home to Michelangelo‘s David.
2.) St Petersburg, Russia: St Petersburg is arguably one of the most picturesque cities in the world, and at its centre is the State Hermitage Museum. Russian art and architecture are St Petersburg’s biggest draws, and on this 3-hour walking tour you’ll see two of its finest examples. Gaze in awe at the attention-grabbing architecture of the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood, and then head inside to marvel at its equally opulent interior.
3.) Paris, France: It may seem obvious, but there’s a reason why Paris always ends up on top of most art-lovers’ lists. Start with one of the largest and most well-known museums in the world, the Louvre (Musee du Louvre).
4.) Vatican City, a city-state surrounded by Rome, Italy, is the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church. It’s home to the pope and a trove of iconic art and architecture. Home to Piazza di San Pietro (St Peter’s Square) and the colonnade were designed and built by Bernini (completed in 1667). At 314 meters long and 240 meters wide it is the largest square in Rome. Bernini (with the help of his pupils) designed the 140 statues of saints which decorate the colonnade.
5.) Last but not least is the The Reina Sofia Museum is located in what once was the General Hospital, one of the older neoclassic buildings in the Atocha neighbourhood in Madrid. The Reina Sofia also houses other famous Picasso paintings such as Mujer en Azul (Woman in Blue), Pintor y la Modelo (Painter and the Model) and Mujer en el Jardín (Woman in the Garden).
