Lets talk about some house viewing tips. If you are house hunting right now, you probably already know that it’s a nightmare. Housing searching the thick of winter is the worst. However you can make it a lot easier for you and your future housemates by being prepared to snatch up the best houses as soon as you can. The student house of your dreams is a house situated where it’s a ten minute walk from every place you will need to visit while studying at university and your neighbours take at your rubbish and allow you have to have house parties until 4 am.(Okay, so that never happens outside the movies, but you can dream right?)
- Camera
When viewing houses, the last thing you want to do is forget what the place looks like. Bring your camera (or use your phone’s) and take photos of everything-including those cracks in the wall and mould on the ceiling. ( These photos may come in use when you leave the house if you decide to take it so that you can keep as much of your deposit as possible.)
- Decision Makers
This one can be tricky manage due to the fact that house hunting normally occurs during exam season where maybe hard for all roommates to be present at the house viewing. Try book house viewings that everyone attends. The worst thing you can do is find a place love it and lose it because on or two people are in different places.
- Trusted Friend
Another good house viewing tip is to bring a friend. This mainly applies to students looking for houses for the first time, it’s important to bring a trusted friend at least. You’ll want someone to offer a second opinion and help ask questions you might forget. If they can’t make it in person have them there in a virtual sense via Face Time or video chat. Plus your parents will be so proud.
- Student Review Websites
To help you make that informed decision about where to rent as a student there are two websites available.
You can check out our own website WhichPad.com where you can read student reviews on letting agents.
