The Spotlight Interview
Tell us about the team this season – what are your biggest goals and highlights so far?
[Tallis]: This season we’ve had to rebuild almost from scratch after many of our players graduated. Despite having a brand-new squad, we’ve had some fantastic moments, including reaching another Scottish Cup Final and seeing one of our players score an incredible goal from the halfway line.
How do you balance intense training schedules with university studies and student life?
“Our social secretaries make sure to organise regular socials and meetups for the squad to wind down. Waking up earlier to get work done is a personal strategy of mine.”
What’s the best piece of advice you’d give to incoming freshers wanting to join a sports team?
“My advice for them is to be proactive and disciplined. The first trait we look for in student athletes is always commitment. Being a good team player makes you stand out more than you think!”
As student athletes, what are the most important factors when choosing where to live?
“Living close to training facilities is a huge advantage. Having easy access to the gym and training venues makes balancing university life and sport much easier.”
Have you had any funny or memorable experiences with teammates while house-hunting?
“A friend once discovered during the house-hunting process that their prospective landlord was involved in a legal dispute with previous tenants over the property. It definitely reinforced the importance of doing your research beforehand!”
What are the biggest challenges student renters face?
“I would say is the competition given that Edinburgh is such a competitive market when it comes to renting for students.”
If you could give one tip to other students about choosing a letting agent or landlord, what would it be?
“Choose a letting agent or landlord who responds quickly to messages and deals with maintenance issues promptly. Good communication makes a huge difference throughout your tenancy.”
How important is it to live close to your teammates?
“It is a big big plus! Last year, a few of us lived within walking distance, the drives to games really made us bond!”

What’s next for the team?
