Our first impression of our landlords was that they were very unpleasant to communicate with. Any emails regarding issues with the house or rent or inspections, etc all replies were either abrupt, rude or dismissive. Thankfully we had no real issues with the house throughout the year however the state we received the house and was not pleasant. It was clear that no one had been in the house for at least a couple of months and the house had deteriorated in cleanliness over that time. When we moved in the house appeared dingy and clean. Upon moving in, we discovered a couple of small issues with the house we sent a list of these to the estate agents and they did nothing about it. For example there were cracks in the front door and our back door did not lock. Overall, I think we got lucky that the house was in decent condition because if we had had any major issues, I would not have wanted to go through them or trusted them to fix it. There was also a very clear mould problem that was not addressed or treated. It was clear that they simply painted over the infected areas repeatedly.
They would also come by unannounced with no prior warning.

The house maintenance was done very well by the private landlord, who communicated quickly and thoroughly. However M&M were slow to reply and seemed uninterested in any property maintenance. We also didn’t get our deposit back in full. Money was deducted for a oil tank visit that was “a waste of resources” as we had no oil in the tank, and also deducted for a broken fire alarm – which wasn’t our fault as it was faulty technology. Money was also deducted for late rent payments from one housemate.

The house was handed over in poor condition- we had to pretty much deep clean the whole place ourselves as soon as we moved in. There were items of furniture that were not fit for use. M&M were not quick to deal with issues or just simply didn’t deal with them and was just generally unhelpful. On the whole, I believe they simply take advantage of students in order to get the most profit for their business- would not recommend it to anyone.

I live at 12 stranmillis park. We attended an open viewing for the property then went straight to the office to sign up. They usually take a week or two to address any issues. Happy in the house!
