Helping Prospective Tenants Make Smarter Decisions

WhichPad is the UK first dedicated student rental review website. We started WhichPad in response to our own experience with searching for a student rental. The 2 million people who rent their home in the UK student rental market have very few resources when it comes to choosing a place to live. Although it is entirely normal for landlords to demand large cash deposits, references, and a credit check from their tenants, those about to move into a rental property frequently do so based on nothing more than a cursory look around the property and a gut instinct. We believe that needs to change.

 The inspiration for this student rental review website came while renting a property which had severe condensation issues. The previous student tenants of the house knew about the problem but there were no student rental reviews available online which could have helped us make an informed decision. In spring, we realised the property was infested with moths. We were left with no other option but constantly opening and closing windows, refilling, and emptying dehumidifiers and researching into every moth destroying remedy – from lavender to cedar wood. When we saw a moth fly away, we could feel nothing but helplessness as we counted down towards the breakout clause!

Looking back, we wish we had the ability to look up truthful, honest, unbiased reviews from other students on their student letting agency. It would’ve helped immensely knowing what we were getting ourselves into and could’ve stopped the trouble we experienced during our time there.

This website was made in hope that all tenants will be able to make an informed decision and they will get a voice in this one-sided market where demand outstrips supply. At the same time giving genuine letting agencies who provide a good service a chance to show their credentials.
